Accessory Design Major is the one and only design major among the state universities in Turkey offering bachelor’s degree of specialized education which aims to train the exclusive designers of the future in the fashion accessory design field. For this purpose, the major aims to meet the needs of pioneer designers in the fields of shoes, saddlery, and jewellery that are complementary and indispensable elements of the textile and apparel industry. The Major includes a four-year curriculum that covers the process of designing body accessories and functional accessories with creative interpretation, using manual work, and mass production techniques. The major constantly renews the education program on design, form, function, technology, material and aesthetic expansions, besides its circle of influence is expanded by following national and international academic and art/design activities. Alongside the fashion accessories design and production, our students have the chance to experiment with unconventional materials such as waste materials, paper, plastic, felt and thus, they bring uncommon approaches into their design. The education of universal fashion accessories design perspective is supported by field surveys, technical visits, workshop practices and internship opportunities. Accessory Design students represent our major in the best way by the awards they win in the competitions supported by various institutions of leather, saddlery and jewellery industry and participating in trade fairs and educational seminars. Accessory Design Major graduates are specialized in jewellery, shoes, and leather items design within the scope of their education. The graduates of the major work as jewellery, shoe and bag designers or work in the accessory departments of textile, ready to wear firms. They may establish their own designer brands in the field they specialized or work as academic staff at the related departments of universities or public institutes.
