Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Fine Arts, established under the presidency of Prof. Sevim Çizer, the Ceramic Department began its education and training in Alsancak in the academic year of 1987-88. In 1995, it was relocated to the Narlıdere campus and since 2019, it has been continuing its education and training at the Buca, Tınaztepe D.E.Ü campus.
In our department, undergraduate and graduate programs are implemented to educate individuals who have an understanding of the artistic and industrial notions of ceramic and glass design and have a command of the fundamental principles of the plastic arts. Internships that enable students to become acquainted with production tools and engage in practical work are also included in the educational program. Our department has mutual student and faculty exchange agreements with foreign higher education institutions.
With the idea of globalization, which is a prevalent discourse of our time, taking place in the field of art and the interaction between Turkish art and world art, our department has been organizing the “International Ceramic Symposium” since 1997, enriching our country with a collection of international contemporary ceramic works. Since 2001, it has been a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC).
